World Snow Day engaging children in Tokyo

World Snow Day engaging children in Tokyo

On 20th January 2013, World Snow Day had many incredible events around the world. When the World Snow Day project began it had a clear objective to give children as well as their families a chance to explore, enjoy and experience the snow. From the beginning it was also imperative to engage children who normally do not participate in snow sports, such as those living in cities.

More than 30,000 participants visited World Snow Day's event in Tokyo Japan at Roppongi Hills over the two-day period. At the center of the event was a huge 'hip' on which a Big Air Freestyle demonstration was staged. In keeping with the theme of 'children', well known young athletes between 9-15 years of age from the United States, Korea and Japan took part in the demonstration. The use of youngsters from the targeted age group excited the children and families even more, as these athletes are striving to participate in the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, Korea!

To further engage and interact the crowd, children had the opportunity to enjoy the snow in a specially established play area. Snow games, sledges and snow flag races on the 60-degree hip jump landing area were some of the great activities going on.

The event not only brought children to snow sports but also created a great environment for families to be together. Organisers hope that kids who played at World Snow Day will one day go to the snowy mountains to enjoy winter sports.
