The Vitranc Cup has been present in Slovenia since the year 1961. Throughout all those years, its organization has been developing concurrently with the development of alpine skiing and competitions’ safety requirements, we have been gathering experience and know-how, and today the Vitranc Cup is one of the largest, best organized and one of the best visited traditional sport events in Slovenia and in central Europe. Most merit for that shall be attributed to the diligent, hard-working and persistent inhabitants of Kranjska Gora and the neighbouring villages, who still co-create this top skiing event by their volunteer work, as well as to the Vitranc Cup Organizing Committee. Because of that, the Vitranc Cup is deeply anchored in the FIS calendar also in the future.
The 55th edition of Vitranc Cup will take place on March 5th and 6th 2016.This year yet again the organizers endeavour to justify their reputation in organizing an attractive event, which brings together sport and entertainment. For two days, the best giant-slalom and slalom skiers will be racing on the slopes of Podkoren and competing for the best results and placements. The competition will be spiced up by music events at the skiing venue as well as in the centre of Kranjska Gora. After the giant-slalom race, on Saturday evening, the visitors in Kranjska Gora will be entertained and have fun at the »Q-Max Party«
However, the Vitranc Cup is not merely sports and entertainment. The best world’s skiers bring to Kranjska Gora also the political and business elite on the local, national and international level. In those two days, people from different walks of life, areas and business activities will share their admiration and enjoy in the skiers’ performance, competitive fighting spirit, persistence and discipline, i.e. virtues which today represent a pre-requisite for any area of our lives.

As forecasted, uninterrupted rainfall marked the night between yesterday’s Giant Slalom and today’s Slalom in Kranjska Gora, but thanks to the efforts of the experienced course crew, the Podkoren slalom hill offered great conditions for today’s Pokal Vitranc slalom.
The 56th edition of the Pokal Vitranc kicked off today with the traditional Audi FIS Ski World Cup Giant Slalom on the Podkoren 3. On this last regular race before the Finals in Aspen, Marcel Hirscher was unbeatable and took everything that was on the table for him: he secured both the Overall and the Giant Slalom globe and claimed the GS win.
Mostly organized in March in past winters, the “Vitranc Pokal” event at Kranjska Gora represents one of the most exciting highlights of the last part of the World Cup season prior to the Finals – as well as a spectacular battlefield for some of the best technical skiers on the tour.
After the snow control from Thursday 23rd of February, Kranjska Gora got the green light to organise the scheduled giant slalom and the slalom on 4th - 5th March 2017.
The two best slalom skiers this season are the ones that made the most out of today's race in Kranjska Gora. In the ned, both came away happy as Marcel Hirscher too the victory on the day, while Henrik Kristoffersen earned enough points to claim the slalom globe.
According to several athletes, today‘s Audi FIS Ski World Cup Giant Slalom in Kranjska Gora was one of the toughest of the season. Only the best skiers of the world could pretend to claim the Vitranc Cup win, and right know, Alexis Pinturault and Marcel Hirscher are the ones setting the pace in Giant Slalom, whatever the conditions.
