Alexis Pinturault leading the AC-SL run
As forcasted, snowfall and fog came in during the night and challenged the Organisers of the 3rd schedule Alpine Combined of the season. Already yesterday, the jury decided to prepare a plan A and a plan B, with the Alpine Combined starting either with the downhill or with the slalom run. This morning, as the jury inspected the course, the decision was obvious that the slalom would be the first discipline of today’s race, in order to give the course crew more time to clean the track.
At least since their podium sweep in Kitzbuehel, the French team is the absolute favourite in the Alpine Combined. And today they kept up with their reputation and took the 3 first spots again.
Alexis Pinturault, who is co-leading the Alpine Combined standings with Kjetil Jansrud, was the fastest in the slalom run. He is followed by teammates Thomas Mermillod Blondin (+0.36) and Victor Muffat-Jeandet (+0.37).
Croatia’s Ivica Kostelic, who already has 6 Alpine Combined podiums (3 wins) on his winner list, skied onto the 4th position, +1.18 off Pinturault’s pace.
The downhill run will start at 14.00 CET, and we’ll see if the speed specialists can catch up with Alexis Pinturault. Dominik Paris and Carlo Janka have the best chances, as they are only +1.27 and +1.28 behind. Kjetil Jansrud and Adrien Théaux will also do their best to close the +1.67 and 2.04 gap between them and Pinturault.
