Another knee operation for Susanne Riesch
As Susanne Riesch crashed in speed training in Chile in September 2011 she already presumed that she would miss the 2011/12 season. A fracture in her left tibia, a tear in the ACL and meniscus injury required not only three operations but also very intensive rehab.
Last months have seen tough training to prepare for the World Championship season 2012/13. However, persistent rumors about another knee operation started to make the rounds following the third training camp for the DSV Alpine ladies‘ team in Hotel Stanglwirt in Going near Kitzbühel last week. Susanne Riesch commented the situation in an interview with Skiweltcup.TV on Saturday.

Hey Susanne, this week your fans and we heard a rumor about another operation scheduled for Monday.
Susanne Riesch: Yes it is correct that I unfortunately need to have another operation on Monday. I can train well and a lot (road bike, stationary bike, core and upper body), but I have massive problems in strength training. When I bend my knee beyond a certain point, I get a pain from the side of the knee inwards. What the problem is no one knows for sure.
You will need to skip the first snow training in Zermatt.
I cannot even think of skiing at this time and that is why I chose to have the operation. The doctors are also considering if it is the metal (screws and plates) thatt is causing the knee pain.
Do you have a plan for the next few months?
The operation is on Monday during which Dr. Münch is going to remove the metal and conduct an arthroscopic measure. The bone will then need another 6 weeks before it can bear weight again, but I think after 2-3 weeks I can begin with some easy endurance training. I would like to be back on skis at the beginning of October, but I need to wait to know for sure as that is a long time from now and much can happen.
