Blessing in disguise for Mauro Caviezel
Switzerland’s Mauro Caviezel had a training crash during downhill taining in Nevados de Chillan, Chile and complained of a strong ache in his left lower leg which a following x-ray confirmed to be a fracture of the fibula.
Head coach Tom Stauffer: „Mauro did a normal downhill training and it was just one of these fatal moments in racing that got him injured here.“ Caviezel immediately left for Switzerland to discuss the further proceedings with the medical team around team doctor Walter Frey at the university clinic Balgrist in Zürich.
Luckily further examination showed that Caviezel does not have to have surgery and all further treatment will just be done with a cast. He will still be sidelined for multiple weeks but the goal still is to accompany the team to the USA at the beginning of November. Walter Frey: „Parallel to the treatment with the cast, we are setting up an optimal rehabilitation plan. Every day is valuable right now.“
