Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy - Amazing weather today in the Dolomites as forecast. Cold temperatures overnight made the track harder allowing the girls to all enjoy the wonderful “Olimpia Delle Tofane” piste. Winner of last season’s downhill in Cortina Daniela Merighetti showed how comfortable she is on this hill and clocked the best time of the 1st and only training in 1:40.03. Not far behind came Tina Maze, 0.22 seconds off the pace. Lindsey Vonn took 3rd, 0.60 seconds behind!

Currently 3rd of the downhill rankings, the Italian racer found the right balance to be the fastest. “I really like this hill. It’s always a pleasure to come to Cortina, 3 hours away from my home”, said “Dada”.

“The snow was still a bit soft despite the cold temperatures. I had to let the skis go and not to be too aggressive.”

Slovenian Tina Maze showed again that one has to count on her in the speed events, especially after she won last Super G in St Anton. “It felt good to ski on this amazing slope today”, she confessed.

“ I think my chance to win is realistic, if I can ski as strong as I’ve been doing so far this season and with a bit of luck. Lindsey seems to be back in a really good shape and Daniela is always very fast here. Let’s see tomorrow”

Leader of the discipline Lindsey Vonn put a solid run together. She was fastest than Maze after the last splits but stood up before the finish. The rest of the American team demonstrated how strong they were at the moment with Mancuso finishing 4th and Stacey Cook 9th.

Austria’s Anna Fenninger was a victim of a fall after hitting a gate in the top part of the course and crashed into the nets. Luckily with no injury!

The scenario’s of tomorrow’s downhill will for sure be thrilling again.

Here are the results of the training.
