Fayed tops the first training in Chamonix
Chamonix is the next venue on the men's Audi FIS Ski World Cup schedule, with an Alpine Combined and a Downhill coming up on Friday (AC, 10.30 / 13.00) and Satruday (DH, 12.15). Today was the first chance for the athletes to test out the famous "Vertes des Houches" track they have last skied in 2012.
Local Guillermo Fayed is the one that tackeled the course the best. The Frenchman is from Chamonix and could take advantage of the numerous training days on the race course.
"Of course, I know the slope very well," said Fayed. "But the course setting has changed a little compared to 2011 and 2012, so today I also had to test out the new course. My run was solid, we spent lots of time on the technical parts of the "Rocher Blanc" in the last days, which allows us to get the right timing, but for the rest it's the same for everybody. I pushed hard today, because in the last races sometimes I took it too easy during the trainings and then I wasn't confident enough on race day."
Fayed was only +0.02 faster than the current Super-G World Champion from Austria Hannes Reichelt, and +0.03 ahead of Norway's Kjetil Jansrud, so it's going to be exciting to see who clocks the fastest time on race day. A second training will take place tomorrow Thursday.
