Federica Brignone made the most logic decision under the circumstances, FISI reports. The Italian giant Slalom specialist will be taking a break from skiing in order to have a cyst, which has been bothering her over the past months, removed from her ankle. The Italian skier has been struggling to perform at her best this season as the problems to the ankle kept persecuting her. The details of the surgery will be defined over the course of the next days and Federica will be skipping the Giant Slalom race in Courchavel scheduled for next Sunday.

“I came to a point where I couldn’t keep going,” Federica explained. “The pain became intolerable and I am struggling to even walk properly. I tried to keep going, but skiing became a pain and stopped being fun. I came to this decision in agreement with all my doctors, and at this point I don’t want to rush things. I am young and solely focused on healing properly and coming back to having fun on my skis. I am sure I will be back stronger then before.”
