The 2013-2014 Audi FIS World Cup tour came to a close today in Lenzerheide (SUI) with the last race of the season going to Anna Fenninger, who won not only the ladies’ giant slalom race 0.25 seconds ahead of teammate Eva-Maria Brem, but she also earned the Small Globe in addition to formally being handed the Big Globe as the season’s best overall skier.

“It was an unbelievable day for me,” said Fenninger. “There are a lot of emotions for me today. It was a great battle for the giant slalom globe with Jessica and I am and just really happy with today and the entire week in Lenzerheide.”

There has been no clear favorite for the ladies in the giant slalom as the leader of the season heading into today’s race, Sweden’s Jessica Lindell-Vikarby won just one race during the season. But today’ Fenninger was too strong for the Swede to hold on to her slim 14-point lead. Lindell-Vikarby finished the day in third place and was second overall in the giant slalom standings this season.

“I’m really satisfied, I never thought at the start of the season that I would be on the podium five of eight races, so I’m quite pleased with how things went,” said Lindell-Vikarby after the race. “Anna is an amazing skier, and she deserves the globe today.”

Fenninger finished in the top-three of every discipline this season with the exception of slalom. It is the Austrian’s first-ever Small Globe in her career. Today was her Rounding out the giant slalom top three was another Swede, Maria Pietiulae-Holmner.

It was an excellent day for the Austrians. Marcel Hirscher mirrored Fenninger's success today as he also earned the Small Globe in slalom, while also being awarded the Big Globe as the overall season winner. Both Hirscher and Fenninger earned one Small Globe each this season in addition to being crowned the 2013-14 season champions.
