GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN, Germany – World Cup overall leader Maria Riesch – who is reportedly feeling better coming into the World Championship women’s downhill after suffering from the flu for the last few days – will be the sole representative for Germany in today’s race in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Her teammate and usual companion on the German women’s speed team, Gina Stechert, suffered a broken right wrist when she crashed into the nets in the world championship super G race last Tuesday.

German team representatives say that Stechert, whose top World Cup result this season was an eighth place in the Lake Louise downhill but who won the World Cup downhill in Tarvisio in 2009 and has several top 10 finishes, is most likely out for the remainder of the season.
