Hans Olsson crashes in Italy
Hans Olsson broke his leg in the European Cup Finals downhill competition in La Thuile (ITA) Thursday.
He crashed severely in the middle of the course and the first diagnosis showed that he broke the shinbone and fibula in his right leg. The Swedish speed specialist was examined on site and then taken to the hospital in Aosta about 20 minutes away from La Thuile for further examination.
"It was simply bad luck. Hans was skiing well when he hit a snow bump and the inner ski cut in. He fell backwards and got bounced around," said the speed coach Helmuth Krug.
Hans was in great pain. "We spoke with each other and despite the situation, he was in relatively good moode," added Krug.
Hans Olsson plans to travel to Innsbruck as soon as possible for an operation.
