JASNA, SLOVAKIA -Marta Bassino and Karoline Pichler raced to gold and silver in the ladies’ giant slalom on 27th February 2014, followed by Austria’s Rosina Schneeberger. In attendance of the President of Slovakia Ivan Gašparovič, Bassino clocked the fastest time with 1:52.86. Pichler and Schneeberger followed 0.27 and 1.73 seconds behind respectively.

“I am extremely happy to have brought down the two fastest runs of the day! When I was in the lead after the first run, I was quite nervous because I didn’t know if I could make it to gold. But it went really well and already feels great to be Junior World Champion, now just minutes after the race. My teammate Karoline scored silver which makes us even happier and shows that the Italian Team is in great shape!” Bassino commented. Her victory was even sweeter as it happened on her 18th birthday.

In the current season, the young lady already raced to one giant slalom victory and a second place at the Europa Cup races in Sestriere (ITA) in late January 2014.

After a sunny training session one day prior to the competition, fog reduced visibility in the upper part of the course during the event and the start had to be lowered for the second run.
