Khoroshilov the fastest in Santa Caterina's slalom
After a successful ladies’ slalom on Tuesday, Santa Caterina Valfurva staged its first ever men’s Audi FIS Ski World Cup slalom today. And the athletes offered a great show in the first run, with a tight podium led by Alexander Khoroshilov, in front of Henrik Kristoffersen (+0.07) and Marcel Hirscher (+0.10).
Khoroshilov was extremely constant last season, ending 3rd in the slalom standings, but struggled to reach the top positions this season (8th in Val d’Isère, 12th in Madonna di Campiglio). Nevertheless, the Russion racer stepped up his game and skied a very solid first run.
The situation is also new for Henrik Kristoffersen this season, who was in the lead after the first run and ended winning the two previous slaloms. “It’s not steep, but it’s not completely flat either, it’s in between. I had some problems with that in the past so I’m happy to be in the position I’m in at the moment” said Kristoffersen.
Marcel Hirscher, winner of last year’s slalom globe and 2nd of both slaloms this season, grasped the third position of the first run’s ranking. But with this tight gaps, everything is possible in the second run starting at 13.00.
