Traditionally Val d’Isère hosts a tech week-end on „La Face“ in December, but this year, in addition to the so called „Criterium de la Première Neige“, the French resort took over the cancelled races from Beaver Creek and is holding one more giant slalom on the “O.K.” course in “La Daille”.

The discipline is dominated by three guys: Marcel Hirscher, Alexis Pinturault and Ted Ligety. Since February 2012, the trio took 34 out of 37 wins, a streak that was only interrupted by Thomas Fanara (March 2016 in St-Moritz), Henrik Kristoffersen (March 2015 in Meribel) and Felix Neureuther (January 2014 in Adelboden).

However, there are many contenders for a win, and especially the French team is skiing very strong in that discipline. They proved it in today’s first run, with Mathieu Faivre placed 2nd, Thomas Fanara 3rd, Victor Muffat-Jeandet 4th and Alexis Pinturault 6th.

The lead goes to 5 times World Cup globe winner Marcel Hirscher, by the smallest possible margin of 0.01 seconds. The Austrian laid down a solid run and will be in the pole position for the second run.

Don’t miss the second run, starting at 13.00, in order to see if the #attackingcroissants can take the win on home snow.
