Munich City Event: Behind-the-scenes
The 2nd edition of the AUDI FIS Ski World Cup City Event in the Munich Olympic Park was held on New Year’s Day. Veronika Velez Zuzulova (SVK) and local hero Felix Neureuther were the winners in front of a crowd of 17’000. The German slalom specialist won the final against Marcel Hirscher (AUT), while Velez Zuzulova beat Slovenian World Cup leader Tina Maze in the ladies' final.
The FISAlpine video crew was on-site, right in the middle of the action in Munich, creating a great wrap-up clip including interviews with both winners Velez Zuzulova and Neureuther but also Maze, Hirscher and Tanja Poutiainen (FIN) - click HERE to watch the video.
The 2013 Munich City event delivered a colourful choreography of lights, music and action-packed ski racing in a special atmosphere. Due to unseasonably warm temperatures, including Christmas Day when temperatures reached +20C in Munich, this year's event was only possible thanks to impressive efforts by the local Organising Committee headed by Frank Seipp.

The Munich City Event was the first held according to revised rules that see the qualified racers drawn from the top 12 slalom specialists and four best all-rounders according to the overall World Cup rankings. The quota for racers qualified, but not participating could be reassigned by their National Ski Association to another top athlete. The current season's 2nd City Event will be staged in Moscow on 29th January 2013, just before the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Schladming that begin on 4th February 2013.
