A training injury to his left knee is forcing Swiss downhill World Champion Patrick Küng to sit out the upcoming training camp in Chile. The World Cup training group around coach Sepp Brunner will depart for Chile on August 23 but Küng’s injury to his patellar ligament is not permitting him to do high intensity training on snow.

Küng had injured his knee during endurance training at the end of July and while it is not a serious injury, even a reduction of the training effort in the past few days did not lead to any improvement. Patrick Küng’s doctors now recommend a training break of six to eight weeks.

In spite of the forced break, Küng is still optimistic to be in good shape at the season start in November: „It is of course unlucky that I have to miss the training weeks in the southern hemisphere but the most important thing is to be able to do the final season preparation without impediments. If I can train fully in October and November, I will be ready in Lake Louise.“
