Puchner operated, Alphand injured
The young Austrian speed racer Joachim Puchner was operated at the Private Clinic Maria Hilf in Klagenfurt on Wednesday. The arthroscopic operation on the right ankle was conducted by Dr. Ernst Orthner.
"I already sustained a comminuted fracture in my lower ankle joint at the Austrian Nationals last year. Since I kept having pain all through last season I decided to have this operation to fix it. Now I hope for optimal recovery and then to start with physio therapy soon to be able to prepare for the Olympic season as well as possible," said the Salzburg native.
Puchner will be able to leave the hospital already on Friday.
Meanwhile, the young French talent Estelle Alphand, daughter of Luc, has been reported to have injured her left knee in a crash in a FIS GS race in Villard-de-Land, sustaining an ACL injury.
She will be operated on 25th April, and is expected to return on skis in about six months.
Estelle, born in 1995, scored one podium and four top 10 results in the European Cup this season and finished 11th in the downhill in the FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships.
