Rainer Schoenfelder retires
Austrian veteran Rainer Schoenfelder has ended his active career in the World Cup -opening in Sölden. Schoenfelder won two silver medals at the World Championship in 2005 at Bormio and two bronze medals at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. In addition, he can look back at ten World Cup victories and a triumph in the slalom World Cup in 2004. He has also made a name for himself as a singer and entertainer, including participation to the Austrian version of Dancing Stars.
With a farewell ride in a 70s ski outfit Rainer Schoenfelder said goodbye to his racing career on Sunday in Soelden. The 36 -year-old came down the steep slope just before the second round of the men's World Cup giant slalom race and was greeted at the bottom by members of the Austrian Ski Association.
"There were some things which changed, and for the better," Schoenfelder commented about his decision to retire.”
