Sunday's Cortina d'Ampezzo downhill race cancelled
Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy - Yesterday's downhill was rescheduled for today but has to be cancelled as well since it has been snowing heavily for the last 20 hours. With the relatively warm temperatures the snow is heavy and wet.
"The decision was easy to make this morning", explained FIS chief race director Atle Skaardal. "We received a huge amount of new snow overnight. We would need a minimum of 15 hours to establish the race course again with nice weather which is not the case at the moment. The forecast even tells it will continue to snow for the next 24 hours. We had hence no chance whatsoever to have a race today."
A long week of speed racing awaits now the World Cup ladies, with one training day and four races scheduled within 5 days, starting next Wednesday.
