Swiss men's Alpine training camp in Argentina shortened

The Swiss men of the speed group should have been training in Las Lenas, Argentina, starting on 22 August. However, due to the poor quality of the snow the speed training has now been canceled by Martin Rufener the Swiss men's head coach. The training groups 1 and 3 thus fly back to Switzerland.

Martin Rufener is disappointed: "Since I come to Las Lenas never has there been so much effort put in to prepare the pistes as this year. All around, no snow, all blown away and the local people here still managed to move in 20-30 cm of snow on the downhill part of the slope. "Unfortunately this snow is no longer binding, but is "dead ", so the gates hardly stay in the snow: "The snow was treated a zillion times, but an optimal training under these conditions is simply no longer possible." The weather also allows no hope that any fresh snow were to come soon. New snow would be the only way to improve the quality of the old snow. "At least we were able to train with the World Cup Group 1 and 3, during two weeks in Ushuaja on the same watered slopes," Martin Rufener concludes still on a positive note.

Also last year the planned speed camp in Las Lenas could not take place due to bad snow conditions. Fortunately then the Swiss ski athletes found optimal training conditions on a glacier above Zermatt that laid the foundation for a successful winter 2009/10.
