On the (in)famous Birds of Prey, Italy’s Christof Innerhofer finally delivered the perfect run and landed on top of the downhill podium. The Italian snapped the victory from the favorite Aksel Lund Svindal whose teammate Kjetil Jansrud landed his first podium of the season.

On the second day of racing, the Italians continued as if they were on fire. Matteo Marsaglia claimed his first career podium and made it a victory right away. Little did we know of how the season would turn out for the strong Italian men’s speed team!

After two tough weeks of racing in North America, there were many tired skiers crossing the finish line in Sunday’s giant slalom. In front of a home crowd, Ted Ligety gave another demonstration of how to carve and angle on the new skis, and won with an impressive margin. The Italians wrapped up a fantastic weekend with a third place for Simoncelli while Marcel Hirscher continued his podium roll in the technical disciplines by finishing second.
