The Details: On Saturday, after two postponements of the ladies’ start due to fog, Tina Maze opened the season with a win in front of more than 9,000 excited spectators. But the surprise of the day came from Stefanie Köhle. The Austrian finished third, earning her first podium in front of a home crowd. Tessa Worley, who ranked second after the first run, and defending giant slalom champion Viktoria Rebensburg, who trailed Worley in 3rd, failed to finish. With her victory, Maze joined Hermann Maier as the only three-time winners of all time at the Rettenbach glacier.

On Sunday, Ted Ligety stunned the crowd by winning 2.75 and 3.12 seconds ahead of Manfred Moelgg and local hero Marcel Hirscher, respectively. After heavy snowfall over- night, the first racers also struggled with low visibility. Racing with bib #5, Ted Ligety’s performance was nothing less than outstanding. Slovakia‘s Adam Zampa was another hero of the day. Finishing ninth, the young talent scored the first World Cup points for his home country in 20 years.
