Viki Rebensburg ready for title hattrick
Viktoria Rebensburg is one of Germany’s top stars in Alpine Skiing. Since winning the gold medal in giant slalom in the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games as somewhat of a surprise, she has been part of the international skiing elite. In the 2011/12 season, the 22-year-old finished on top of the podium five times and collected her second giant slalom World Cup title in a row.
Viktoria took some time to discuss her “off competition season” time and plans for next winter.
“You have to train hard to stay in shape, also during summer. What is your favorite exercise?
Viktoria: “Mainly interval training on the track as well as extensive hikes and bike tours through the mountains. I can really enjoy the great views and combine them with my training.“
What is the best/worst about summer training?
“The best part is that I can train close to home. I enjoy having the possibility of getting myself ready for the winter, whilst being able to come home to my family and friends to spend time outside of training with them.“
What music do you enjoy when you train and why?
Viktoria: “I always have my Ipod on shuffle so I couldn’t really tell you exactly, but if I were to name an artist of the top of my head I would have to say David Guetta at the moment. I really enjoy the beat and rhythm of his music with which the training becomes a real pleasure.“
If you could go for a swim anywhere in the world this summer, where would it be?
Viktoria: “I would go to the Tegernsee in Bavaria (GER), where I have grown up.“
What is your goal for the coming winter season?
Viktoria: “I know that over the last two seasons I have skied at a very high level and have become the first German who has managed to defend the title in the giant slalom World Cup. I hope to defend it yet again, but there are still areas I wish to improve in. For instance I was very happy to win my first World Cup super-G race and wish to consistently stay in the world elite in this event as well. Concerning the upcoming World Championships in Schladming, it is my dream to win the gold medal in the giant slalom.“
