This past week-end, Saturday 24 April, the athletes' ball in Merano was the very last event before the season 2009 - 2010 finally ended. It will be the last major highlight of this season, one that Manuela Moelgg won last year. On April 09, the Moelggs' fan club had the traditional end of season party at the club house von San Vigilio in Enneberg.
It was a season of ups and downs, for Manuela and Manfred Moelgg; a year in which not everything worked out as desired, but in which they could still achieve quite a few good results.
Manfred's best result was the second place finish in the World Cup slalom in Zagreb. On the day of the Italian double victory with Giuliano Razzoli the win was within reach, following a series of good results prior to Zagreb. The positive series began with the podium in Val d'Isère. It was the first time that Manfred stood on the third step of the podium in a super-combined event. Additional good results followed with several top 5 results.
Overall, Manfred claimed 5 Top-5 results and 8 top-10. His giant slalom season can also be seen quite positively and it seems that the hard training in summer paid off. Manni finished the season with the double National Championship title in Falcade, Italy, in slalom and giant slalom.
His sister Manuela managed stood on the podium once in the past season. It was in the giant slalom at Lienz, Austria at the end of December. As so often in her career, it was only a few hundredths of a second that separated her from winning. The second place in Lienz was the highlight of a season in which she was consistently skiing well and eventually finished as the best Italian, in both the slalom and the giant slalom World Cup, as well as in the overall standings.
The Olympic Games in Vancouver were a separate chapter, where expectations were set high. Manuela skied a decent slalom and ended up 11th, while she could not be satisfied with a 17th place finish in the giant slalom. Manfred did not finish the super combined and got 22nd in giant slalom. He was hoping for the slalom, where he took 7th.
