26th Winter Universiade starts action
All eyes will be on the Italian northern mountain region of Trentino when today, 11th December 2013, the curtains open for the 26th edition of the FISU Winter Universiade. Organised by the International University Sports Federation (FISU), the biannual event for University athlete-students that incorporates educational and cultural aspects into 11 days of action.
Through extensive television broadcast coverage, viewers across the world will be able to follow the competitions from 11th-21st December where more than 2,500 athletes from over 50 countries will take centre stage, some of whom are set to compete at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games. The athletes will compete in 12 different sports, half of which represent the six FIS Olympic disciplines.
While Eurosport is providing cutting edge technology to bring the experience of Trentino to the living rooms of millions around the world, Italy’s RAI will also offer extensive live feeds throughout the event. With 150 hours of live broadcast and further coverage on FISU’s Live TV channel (www.livefisu.tv), the Winter Universiade Trentino 2013 is set to be the most comprehensively covered Winter Universiade in the event’s history.
Approximately 250 accredited journalists have arrived in Trento to cover the event. They will report from the Main Press Centre in Sanbapolis and from the different venues, promising large media coverage.
