Aino-Kaisa Saarinen finished her competition season with career-first DNF. “My body is telling me it is time”

Aino-Kaisa Saarinen, expecting her and husband Tom Gustafsson’s first child to be born in May, finished her competition season in Lillehammer on Saturday. During her entire pregnancy her main focus has been on listening her body. Today the body told it was time to leave the competition scene for now. That resulted to career-first DNF
in skiathlon.

“It felt so heavy today with breathing. My body told it is time to move on training period for now. However I am not starting my maternity leave yet – I feel good and have lots of energy, and skiing feels good, so I continue skiing in good conditions in Livigno and Toblach, and return home on December 21st. I will continue skiing but skip the hard trainings, also I will keep some strength training in my routine. All the time I will listen to my body and ease on trainings when I feel so. Now I can train well before actual maternity leave and focusing on Lahti 2017 World Championships!”
