Tobias Angerer (GER), the winner of the inaugural Tour de Ski in 2007, has withdrawn from the 2011 edition, dropping out midway through Saturday’s 15km classic race.

Angerer did not start well the fifth edition of the Tour de Ski. After first stage he was losing +43 second on the leader and started 59th in the second stage over 15 km Classic Handicap start. "In yesterday's 2nd stage I realized that right now I'm not in the shape to fight with the best," admits Angerer on his web page.

Angerer, a two-time World Cup overall champion, won Olympic silver in the 30km pursuit in Vancouver and hopes to get in shape for the biggest season highlight in Oslo. "I will not focus to build up my shape towards the World Champs. I have now a week more time to get back into swing," revealed Angerer.
