Arianna Follis and Ola Vigen Hattestad will defend victory in Liberec
Host city of World Championships 2009 is ready to welcome World's sprint elite. Everything is ready for Sprint World Cup weekend in Liberec.
After tough Tour de Ski many top athletes will take a rest this weekend but still Arianna Follis, Marianna Longa and Petra Majdic took the chance to get ready for World Championships Sprint as well. Sprint dominator Emil Joensson has to skip this weekend due to not totally recovered after sickness. Also Nikolay Morilov is sick and still in Russia.
In spite of warm weather in the Northern part pf Czech Republic the snow conditions are very good. "Even it has been very warm last days, the course is still in a good shape and course crew does a good job. Many of the sprint stars are back in business after the Tour de Ski, the two World Champions from 2009 will be on the start list. Many nations have to their selcetion for the World Championships 2011, so the sprint in Liberec has a high priority especially as in Oslo the sprint is as well in free technique and the team sprint in classic,"explains FIS Race Director Cross-Country Jürg Capol.
Two years ago Arianna Follis shined and claimed title of the Sprint World Champion. Today he aims high as well. “My aim for Liberec is to be on the podium,” said Arianna Follis today. “The course suits me well, it has some good uphills and as well some nice downhills – you need to have a good technique. There are a lot of good racers that can be strong. My team mates, Marit Bjoergen and as well the Swedish will be for sure strong as well,” she added.
Czech team will miss Lukas Bauer and Martin Jaks. Dusan Kozisek will lead the Czech squad at the only home World Cup “I was not in shape so far but I hope Liberec give me a kick to get back on the right way, “said Dusan Kozisek. “I like the course and I hope my result will be better then at the World Championships where I was not even qualified for the final,” he concluded.
