Surprising winner of the German Sprint Champs

Claudia Nystad and Tom Reichelt are suprising winners of the German Sprint Championships in Oberwiesenthal.
Nystad and Reichelt claimed relatively unchallenged victory which was followed by 1000 spectators. After Nystad Nicole Fessel took the 2 nd place and Denise Herrmann claimed the third podium place. Men's podium was occupied by Reichelt , Rene Sommerfeldt and Oliver Wünsch.

Although Fessel dominated the qualification she did not have a chance against the sprint silver medalist from Torino. "It was a very valuable interval training before the Tour of Ski in Oberhof which will start on the New Year's Day, "said the Nystad who had been fighting in the finals with Fessel and dominated the race.

German sprint dilemma?

Tom Reichelt who won already the qualification captured men's sprint race. The fact that Reichelt and Sommerfeldt, both distance specialist, claimed top 2 podium places shows German dilemma in the sprint. German top sprinter Josef Wenzl from Zwiesel was only seventh "I just do not know why. I have been training well, but am just not at my top speed," commented sprinter from Bayern sadly.
