Competition formats and bonus seconds of the 12th FIS Tour de Ski

The 12th edition of the FIS Tour de Ski features 7 competitions. Here a quick guide to the competition formats and bonus seconds. 

Stage 1 - Lenzerheide SUI: Sprint free technique

For the individual sprint qualification round the seeded group (established according to the current World Cup standing) starts first and the starting order within the group is drawn. Following the seeded group all other competitors will be assigned start positions according to their FIS Sprint points.

Bonus seconds: for the top 30 in the Sprint races. The bonus seconds listed below are subtracted from the competitor’s actual race time before being added into the overall time score.

Stage 2 - Lenzerheide SUI: Interval start classic

The seeded group is defined as the 15 best athletes according to the current overall FIS TOUR DE SKI standing after 1 stage. The starting order will be according to the World Cup Rules article 5.4.

Bonus seconds: for top 3 in the finish (15'', 10'' and 5'') 

Stage 3 - Lenzerheide SUI: Pursuit free technique

The starting numbers will be assigned according to the current FIS TOUR DE SKI standings after 2 stages. To prevent too large start time differences, the Jury can decide upon the use of the "wave start".

Bonus seconds: for top 3 in the finish (15'', 10'' and 5'') . No intermediate bonus sprints on the course. 

Stage 4 - Oberstdorf GER: Sprint classic

For the individual Sprint qualification round the seeded group (established according to the current Tour de Ski standing) starts first and the starting order within the group is drawn. Following the seeded group all other competitors will be assigned start positions according to their FIS Sprint points.

Bonus seconds: see stage 1

Stage 5 - Oberstdorf, GER: Mass start free

The starting number will be assigned according to the overall FIS TOUR DE SKI standing after 4 stages.

Bonus seconds: 1 intermediate points for Ladies & 2 for Men (top 10), for the top 3 in the finish (15”, 10” and 5”)

Stage 6 - Val di Fiemme ITA: Mass start classic

The starting number will be assigned according to the overall FIS TOUR DE SKI standing after 5 stages.

Bonus seconds: 1 intermediate points for Ladies & 2 for Men (top 10), for the top 3 in the finish (15”, 10” and 5”)

Stage 7 - Val di Fiemme ITA: Pursuit Free, Final Climb Alpe Cermis

The starting bibs will be according to the current FIS TOUR DE SKI standings after 6 stages. To prevent too large start time differences, the Jury can decide upon the use of the "wave start".
