Eirik Brandsdal and Marit Bjoergen unbeatable

Eirik Brandsdal is in great shape. After claiming victory last Sunday in Otepää he showed off today at home championships in Steinkjer and claimed gold. Marit Bjoergen scored her 11th gold medal.

For Norwegian sprinters today was the D Day. Sprint Free at the national champs in Steinkjer should reveal who might get a World Champs sprint invitation. Eirik Brandsdal was superior and has probable secured a spot in the Norwegian sprint squad for Oslo. Brandsdal started slower in the final but had a crushing finish. Brandsdal edged out his team mate Anders Gløersen and Johan Kjølstad.

Poelsa in troubles

Oeystein "Poelsa" Pettersen hoped to come back on stage with a winnig performance but was eliminated already in quarterfinal. Result that can be disastrous to Pettersen's World Champs chances. "I was absolutely not good enough today," said Pettersen to NRK. He might get a second chance next weekend in Rybinsk. John Kristian Dahl had been sick and was expected to have problems to keep up with his team mates. "I am healthy now, but this was my first hard workout. It's just too little time, "he said to NRK.

Marit Bjoergen scored 11th gold

Unbeatable Marit Bjoergen continues in her excellent performances and scored today 11th national championships victory. Bjoergen competed in a class of her own the whole day. Maiken Caspersen Falla and Ingvild Flugstad Østberg came closest Bjorgen, but in the home straight Bjorgen did not allow any drama and secured victory. Falla went for silver and  Flugstad Østberg secured bronze.
