Italy’s Fiera di Primiero in Trentino region hosted the Cross-Country National Championships, yesterday Monday 26th December. Italian military groups, both male and female, competed in a Team Sprint event (named Ski Sprint Primiero Energia), along a 400m ring drawn throughout the picturesque city centre.

Thousands of people gathered along the city streets and Fiera di Primiero’s main square to cheer the athletes, and after exciting qualifying rounds, the male final race was won by the Federico Pellegrino – Dietmar Noeckler duo (Fiamme Oro team), while Elisa Brocard and Melissa Gorra (Esercito team) dominated the female competition. Brocard conquered her third title in a row, while both Pellegrino and Noeckler reached their first gold. Fulvio Scola and Cristian Zorzi, both on the first step of last year’s podium, finished their 2011 race on the second and third spot, paired with Nicola Morandini and Loris Frasnelli, respectively.
