With the retirement of Vincent Vittoz French team has a new leader. Jean-Marc Gaillard had a great season and in these days returns to training.

Jean-Marc Gaillard had a very complicated start to the 2010/11 season with sub-par results in Gällivare and Kuusamo. Later on he found again the lost shape and claimed 6th place overall at the Tour de Ski.

In early February he grabbed a very decent second place at the World Cup in Rybinsk that gave the Frenchman confidence before the World Championships in Oslo. However, the season highlight did not go as planned for the French skier. Gaillard had hoped for better results than 23rd place in the Pursuit and 8th spot in Classical Team Sprint.

Gaillard forgot about the disappointment and was back in the saddle in the end of the season. “I would have wished the season to be little longer. After the World Cup finals in Falun I felt the shape returned and I was really satisfied with my performance at the French nationals, Tour de Barents, and Skarverennet. Of course, it does not erase the disappointment of the World Championships in Oslo, but is always good for morale! I ended the season in the eighth place in the Distance World Cup and ninth place in the Overall World Cup standing; so all in all I would say that the season was not so bad, “wrote the Frenchman on his website.

Indeed Gaillard’s final score of the season is quite good and many skiers dream of claiming such results that help to build up motivation and confidence. "Our first training camp will take place in Prémanon in the last week of May. There are no World Championships or Olympic Games next winter but the season will be very important anyway. The World Cup program has expanded and Tour de Ski will definitely be a season highlight,” says Gaillard.
