Olympic Sprint Champion Nikita Kriukov is ready to take further challenges and wants a medal from the World Champs in Oslo.

Last weekend the Russian squad kicked of the season with national opener in Rybinsk. Kriukov showed decent pre-season shape and clinched victory. He admits having been tired after tough autumn training program. "We arrived in Rybinsk immediately after a tough training camp in Ramsau. We did not have time for recovery and tiredness has simply accumulated" Kriukov explained to Russian radio. Start to the new season with a win makes the tiredness go away more easy. "I am glad I managed to win" he said.

Now the team will move to Murmansk where lots of snow is reported. " We will stay in Murmansk a week, then move to Vuoksa, and then to Kuusamo" reveals Kriukov plans for upcoming weeks. Though Kriukov is known as sprint specialist he has tried to improve his distance skills. "In Kuusamo there will be a three-day event with two distance races. I will find out there if I can race longer distances" he commented.

In upcoming season Kriukov wants to prove proving that the talent leading to his Olympic gold medal was no fleeting phenomenon. "Yes, the World Championships is the main goal. I do not want to go there to only take part. I want a medal" he concluded resolutely.
