It is year one after the amazing FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo and the cradle of Nordic skiing – the Holmenkollen – is again ready to host the Nordic family. From 9th-11th March the athletes from the three Nordic disciplines will compete there. For the Cross-Country skiers, mass start competitions over 30 km for ladies and a 50 km for men in classic technique are on the schedule.

On Saturday, the focus will be on the men’s 50 km where thanks to the intermediate bonus sprints, a large number of World Cup points (6 intermediate sprints yield 190 points) can be won. The ladies’ competition will take place on Sunday and the distance specialists will fight for a total of 160 World Cup points (4 intermediate sprints) in that race.

“I am looking forward to returning to Holmenkollen the year after the World Championships,” said Jürg Capol, FIS Race Director. “I hope that this year will again see thousands of people join us alongside the Cross-Country tracks, camp in the woods and cheer for the athletes. Especially on the women’s side, this race can be decisive for the overall World Cup.”
