Finnish Cup opened last weekend in Vuokatti with sprint competitions. Mona-Liisa Malvalehto and Matias Strandvall won the opening of the season. Juho Mikkonen finished in the second place as Strandvall's compatriot from the club Toni Ketelä landed in the third position instead of Anssi Pentsinen who was DSQs for skating.

"I skied very well and controlled the competition most of the time. My technique was good as well in spite of the fast track. Previously I have been struggling with double pulling but during this training season I have "found" it, and today it worked really well. In the final my tactic was just to keep the speed and be the first one to go to the final uphill, and it also worked out perfectly" Strandvall said to www.hevoskuuri.fi

On the ladies' side Mona-Liisa Malvalehto was victorious ahead of Maria Grundvall and Anne Kyllönen.
