Matias Strandvall shines in the third stage of Tour de Barents
Victory in the third stage of Tour de Barents stayed in Finland thanks to sprint specialist Matias Strandvall.
Sprinter Matias Strandvall grabbed victory ahead of compatriot Lasse Paakkonen and Estonian Kein Einaste. Starndvall and Einaste are not participating in Tour De Barents.
Matti Heikkinen delivered decent fourth place and took over the overall lead in Tour de Barents. Heikkinen leads only 13 seconds before French Jean-Marc Gaillard and 24,2 seconds ahead another Frenchman Maurice Manificat. 5 best men will start within 60 seconds to final stage.
“This was my best sprint this season, but I think I can do better in the future,” said happy Matti Heikkinen. “ The French are sure strong tomorrow, but also Lukas Bauer is close and will be hard to beat,” revealed current Tour leader. “I'm going to have a big plate of mashed potatoes and reindeer stew. That will do the trick,” he said.
