Oberstdorf is at full speed to prep for Tour start

Already during the upcoming weekend the 9th edition of the FIS Tour de Ski will get underway in Oberstdorf, Germany. Only one week ago there was almost no snow in the Allgäu region. However, the weather gods smiled on first ever FIS Tour de Ski opener in Oberstdorf.

Snowfall in Oberstdorf

Almost 50 cm of natural snow has arrived in Oberstdorf and more is expected to come. On top of that the Local Organizing Committee left nothing to chance and brought 1.500m³ of snow from surrounding areas and could produce additionally 800m³ with a Finnish snow making technology.

“We have had many sleepless nights in the last week. However, we can now guarantee that Oberstdorf will be ready. We were lucky with the weather and could rely on enormous help of our volunteers,” Stefan Huber, chief of the LOC said to FIS Cross-Country News.

Competition course
The opening FIS Tour de Ski program is featuring the prologue in free technique on Saturday, 3rd January and pursuit in classic on Sunday, 4th January. Organizers will prepare a well known 2,5 km course, which was used also in 2012 when the FIS Tour de Ski was in Oberstdorf the last time.

Site programme
The programme of the FIS Tour de Ski will start already on Friday, 2nd January with the team presentation in front of the Oberstdorf Haus in the well-known Nordic Park. All teams will be presented with their athletes and coaches. Beside the opening ceremony there will also be a fireworks display and afterwards a big party with live music from “Zündstoff”.

Also on Saturday evening the Nordic Park opens it's gates for all fans and guests of FIS Tour de Ski with live music and the famous “WM-Bar”.
