Petter Northug gears up for the season
There were many questions surrounding Petter Northug during final period of the previous World Cup season. However, those who attended the press conference at the SAS Radisson hotel in Beitostoelen today could see the "old" Petter Northug. He seemed calm and confident before the national opening this weekend and World Cup opener next week.
The flue he caught during the high altitude camp at Val Senales is a closed chapter. The biggest question that hang up in the air, was how does he feel after such a long competition break? The last competition he took part in was in Nove Mesto, on February 12, 2012.
"I am excited and I feel good. If I have some hard training sessions here in Beitostoelen and can recuperate afterwards, I hope I will ski well this weekend. The goal is to win the World Cup opener in Gällivare next Saturday," he said to the media.
Step by step
The competition program for Norwegian and some international athletes kicks off already this weekend with the traditional Norwegian Opening in Beitostoelen. The program starts on Friday with 15 km free, classical sprint is scheduled on Saturday and Sunday will feature 15 km classic.
Petter Northug jr. plans to go step by step. "If my body responds before Friday and on the competition day, then the plan is to take part in all competitions. I take these competitions as hard training. The result is not important," Petter Northug concluded.
