Season over for Lukas Bauer
Double FIS Tour de Ski winner, Big Crystal Globe Winner Lukas Bauer will miss rest of the season with a heel injury, the Czech announced on Monday.
"After several medical checks and second MRI we discovered what has been causing my heel problems. The second imaging proved fatigue fracture of heel bone. Despite the diagnosis means the end of the season for me, I am happy, that we have discovered the source of my problems," Lukas Bauer said on his website.
Lukas Bauer has been coping with heel pain since the World Cup in Nove Mesto. After the 30 km Mass Start Classic on Saturday he did not start in Sunday's relay. First news were speaking about sore heel, however, the diagnosis has become more serious.
After a few weeks and several visits at specialist the pain went away and Bauer tried to carry out first work out last Monday. " I was double poling and did not feel any pain and I was hoping to come back in the World Cup circuit in Lahti. The day after I decided to test classical technique. After one hour double poling I tried the classic and I was feeling pain again from the first move. I immediately realized it was bad.," Bauer explained.
Bauer went through another round of medical checks and the final diagnosis was discovered on Saturday. "On the last MRI image the fracture was clearly recognizable," Bauer said with a cast on his heel.
Bauer scored two podium results this season. He was third in Davos and second Otepää. He claimed sixth place in the overall FIS Tour de Ski standing.
