Sindre Bjornestad Skar brings Norway to gold in relay. UPDATED
After the success of the Norwegian ladies this morning, their team mates on the men’s side took as well the relay Junior World Championships title.
The team with Emil Iversen, Erik Bergfall Brovold, Mathias Rundgreen and Sindre Bjoernestad Skar claimed victory on the 4 x 5 km course in a time of 49:10.5min, just 2,1 seconds ahead of Russia (Gleb Retivykh, Sergey Ustiugov, Konstantin Kuleev and Denis Kataev). On third place finished the team from Finland (Sami Lahdemaki, Iivo Niskanen, Antti Ojansivu and Perttu Hyvarinen), 12,8 seconds behind the winning Norwegian team.
After the first three legs, Russia was clearly in the lead but Sindre Bjoernsestad Skar pushed very hard on the final leg and was able to catch up Denis Kataev just a kilometer before the finish. Kataev wasn’t able to respond when Skar overtook him on the final slight downhill and the Norwegian Junior World Champion over the 10 km free technique was able to bring “home” the relay victory for Norway.
Markus Weeger from Germany tried to attack the third place of Finland on the final lap but Perttu Hyvarinen hold his advantage to the finish and took last spot on the podium with his team while Germany just edged out by finishing fourth (+20,8 seconds).

In my last lap I think I was 6 seconds behind the Russian guy and I went for gold. Silver wasn’t enough for us. I did all I could during the lap. My goal was to take the Russian. I knew I was better, but my legs were very tired on the last hill, I was shaky and I didn’t know if I could sprint so well. My team is great, we have a strong team
Gleb Retivykh (RUS)
Yes we are disappointed for not winning. What was missing today I think was the luck. Last year we got also silver. The problem today was that Denis (Kataev) was a bit weaker because of his leg. We have a great team; just the Norwegians are very strong and in very good shape.
Perttu Hyvarinen (FIN)
I didn’t expect to be on the podium for the third time. My skis were very good. We have a very good team and we won the bronze. We all have skied many races here and we are tired now, so I don’t know if we would have made it to the top two in any case.
