Vibeke Skofterud has decided to end her 2012-13 season early.

After struggling through the first two races are Norwegian Championships, she has decided that it is time to recover for next year. "She has realized that it's too much. It started back in august. She has been racing with the handbrake on all season," says national coach Egil Kristiansen.
Skofterud opened the season well, but has struggled since Christmas . "She has had some good races, but after a thorough evaluation, we have jointly come concluded that this is the best solution. It peaked in La Clusaz last weekend where she went very badly on both Saturday and Sunday. She is physically and mentally exhausted and needs time to get physically and mentally prepared to start the preparation for an important Olympic year. The goal is that she will be fully recovered in May," said Kristiansen.  Kristiansen says Skofterud helped to make the decision. She realized that the body needs a rest, when she finished nearly two minutes after the winner Marit Bjoergen in La Clusaz last Saturday. It was on a 10-kilometer classic mass start. "She wants to be at a level where she knows she can be at her best, and when she is able to fight against the best." Where is she right now. Kristiansen believes that there is no point that she continues to get more run down. "Without this break it would take even longer before she is back again. Our goal is that she will be back and fully recovered when we start up for a new season."
