Martin Johnsrud Sundby of Norway like his teammate Therese Johaug has lived up to his title as Tour de Ski favourite.  The 2-time defending Tour winner skied away from the men's field to win the 30 km classic mass start competition in Lenzerheide, Switzerland to win by 34.6 seconds.  Also, like the ladies' competition earlier in the day it was a Norwegian sweep of the podium.  In second place was Petter Northug, who outsprinted his teammates Didrik Toenseth and Sjur Roethe on the homestretch.  Toenseth won out for 3rd place +35.1 back and just 0.5 ahead of Roethe in 4th.  Alexey Poltoranin of Kazakhstan who won the classic competition in Lenzerheide during the 2014 Tour took 5th place.

With his margin of victory today Sundby took over the Tour de Ski lead and is ahead of Petter Northug Jr. by 1:18 minutes.  Toenseth sits in third, Sergey Ustiugov (RUS) fourth and Roethe in 5th.

Martin Johnsrud Sundby, NOR
I felt tired from the start and still could feel yesterday’s sprint. I needed a couple of laps to get in the rhythm. I could feel the altitude. The race was as tough as I had expected. I have a good margin on Petter but that can easily disappear in Oberstdorf. The Tour has just began.

Petter Northug Jr., NOR
It was a tough race. I also needed a few laps to get the sprint off my body. I am happy I won some bonus seconds on the course and in the finish. I have to find the right speed tomorrow. I have to have a fast pace in the 10 km.

Didrik Tønseth, NOR
It was a good race. I had good skis with a good grip. It was difficult snow conditions out there. It is going to be hard to eliminate 12 seconds on Petter tomorrow.
