Sweden and Italy win team sprints in Planica
Sweden's Ida Ingemarsdotter and Stina Nilsson won the ladies' team sprint competition in Planica, Slovenia. They won the only team sprint on the World Cup calendar last season as well in Otepaa, Estonia and repeated again today. Following them on the podium today was Norway I (Heidi Weng, Astrid Urenholdt Jacobsen) in second +3.51 and Germany I (Sandra Ringwald, Hanna Kolb) in third +8.84. Norway's Weng attacked on her final lap and only Ingemarsdotter was able to follow and it came down to Jacobsen and Nilsson to battle it out on the final competition lap. On the final climb into the stadium Nilsson proved too strong for Jacobsen and brought Sweden to victory by over 3 seconds.
On the men's side it was the same nations podium as the day before during the individual sprint podium with Italy first and France in second and third. In first for Italy was the team of Dietmar Noeckler and Federico Pellegrino the bronze medalists from last year's team sprint at the World Championships. In second place was France I (Renaud Jay, Baptiste Gros) +1.79 and in third was France II (Valentin Chauvin, Richard Jouve) +2.41.
I attacked in the last lap maybe little bit too early but my goal was to break the field and go away. It was a great teamwork to compete in Hanna. I am very happy with my first podium. In a team it is even more fun. In the overall, the results of the German team are amazing and it shows we have a great atmosphere in the team.
Dietmar Noeckler, ITA
I did not feel that good in the semifinal. I knew Federico is the best finisher in the world. I tried to work hard to prepare a good position for him. We have won 5 Italian national championships together. It is great to win the World Cup again.
Renaud Jay, FRA
It is amazing to be on the podium. I was fourth yesterday. I knew Baptiste was very strong today. I wanted to gain some meters before the last exchange so that Baptiste has advantage on Pellegrino. But Federico was too strong.
Valentin Chauvin, FRA
I am excited to be on the podium. It is my first World Cup and it is just amazing. It is fantastic I could be on the podium with my friends. The whole team did great here during the whole weekend.
Stina Nilsson, SWE
We had a great day as a team. You could say we are a good couple. Ida did a great work. In the final lap I was in a good position and I could ski as I wanted. I am very satisfied with the weekend in Planica.
