Teichmann and Filbrich sit out Davos due to illness
World Cup action continues this weekend in Davos again with the mixed program with Saturday’s 10 and 15 km Classic. Sprint Free is scheduled on Sunday.
Teichmann and Filbs ill, Stehle and Angerer back
Germany’s national coach Jochen Behle will miss Axel Teichmann and Jens Filbrich who got ill. Teichmann had caught a flu, which prevented him from starting already in Düsseldorf. Another distance specialist Jens Filbrich recovers from illness as well and decided to prepare for next weekend’s Mass Start in La Clusaz, France. Question mark hangs above the start of Franz Göring whereas Evi Sachenbacher Stehle and Tobias Angerer are ready to start in Davos.
Behle is Realistic
German team will arrive in Davos quite late. On Friday the squad will stay in lower altitude in Landquart and will come to Davos on Saturday. "Due to the various disease-related losses, we travel to Davos a relatively smaller men’s squad. Evi and Tobi are back after illness but we cannot expect from them any miracles,” explains Germany’s head coach Jochen Behle. Non-appearances of experienced Teichmann and Filbrich give a chance for young skiers to show up in World Cup. “In Davos we want to give some young athletes the opportunity to present themselves in the World Cup. The aim should be for them to collect some World Cup points,” reveals Behle. In sprint Behle has higher ambitions. “We hope to get, especially on the ladies’ side two or three athletes in the finals,” he said.
Hannah Kolb, Tim Tscharnke, Daniel Heun and Josef Wenzl will race only in the sprint in Davos. Kathrin Zeller is going to take part only in the distance race. All the other athletes will go the full program in Davos.
