The 7th Alliansloppet was a great success
The seventh Alliance race and the final of the second edition of the Ski Team Sweden Roll cup became a great success when the contest was recently held in Trollhättan, Sweden last Saturday. In addition, a fantastic TV broadcast of the event and the over 1,000 participants were the best possible advertising for cross-country skiing.
In the women's class, it was a surprising victory when Maria Nordström (Ulricehamns IF) sprinted down Britta Johansson Norgren (Sollefteå Skis IF) at the finish. Nordström had a perfect day and put colour on the race all the way. Third was Laila Kveli Ahlin of Norway. Along with her victory, Maria won 75,000 SEK for the victory so it was a “good day at work".
The men´s class also had a very dramatic ending with nine men at the same time at the finish. Johan Kjölstad of Norway out sprinted the field to win by a toenail ahead of Markus Ottosson (IFK Umeå) who finished second. Third place – another toenail behind – was Calle Halfvarsson (Falun-Borlänge SK).
Ski Team Sweden Roll cup - wraps up
Britta Johansson Norgren won women's class and 15 000 SEK in the first place with 40 points ahead of Sara Nordstrand, Hudiksvalls IF, and Maria Nordström was third.
The men's cup also got the same top as it had before the start. However, there was no score differences since both the cup winner Marcus Johansson, Ulricehamns IF and runner-up Robin Norum, IFK Umeå, "'zeroed" in Alliance race that margin was 14 points among themselves. In third place was, however, a change came when Anton Karlsson, Åsarna IK, by becoming fifth in Alliance race gathered so many points that it handed to the podium.
Total prize money in the senior classes were 75 000 SEK.
Women's junior winner became Ida Dahl, Östersunds SK, as though she were not in place in Trollhättan kept away altogether. Runner-up was Mathilda Ruus and third Julia Nystöm, Nordingrå SK.
Frederick Andree who took the total lead before the Alliance race also managed to retain it the last day. Viktor Thorn was second with eight points margin to Mark Fredriksson, Lycksele IF. Fredriksson had been at the head of the cup almost the entire season but did see itself passed in the final stage.
Ski Team Sweden Roll cup is over for this time and the Swedish Ski Federation would like to express its warm thanks to all the organizers and active participants. All races have grown this season, and the sport continues to evolve in a positive way.
