Valerio Checchi and Alena Sannikova win the opening race of OPA Cup in Polkjuka.

FIS OPA Cup opener was rescheduled from Val Gardena to Pokljuka due to warm snow conditions. The first race of the new OPA Cup season took place in the biathlon venue of Pokljuka in Slovenia.

Italy's Valerio Checchi dominated the first race of the season over 10 km Classic. Runner up Russia's Nikolay Bolotov lost +8.7 seconds. Another Russian skiers Alexey Soloviev claimed third place having lost +10 sec on Checchi.

On the ladies' side Alena Sannikova of Russia was superior over her compatriot Olga Mikhailova and Katerina Smutna of Austria. Sannikova finished 5 km competition  in 15:50.8 sec and edged out the runner up by +11 sec. Smutna lost on the winner +14 sec.

FIS OPA Cup in Pokljuka continues on Sunday with 10/15 km Pursuit Free Technique.
