Bad days of Kristin Steira seem to be definately away. Norwegian ace scored third in Saturday's Mass Start Free and is back in shape.
Kristin Stoermer Steira did not have ideal off-season. She suffered fatigue fracture in June and had to completely change the summer preparation. One would be give up and it was difficult for Steira to remain focused. "I'm trying to remain positive but I am up and down," she said after medical check up in September, which revealed that the heel was not healed properly.Due to the injury Steira had to find alternative ways of summer training. Running in water, MTB workouts and strength trainings were on the schedule.
Steira's persistance has paid back in World Cups season. She entered the season at the Norwegian opener in Beitostoelen with second place over 10 km Free. Beginning of the World Cup season found Steira in good shape scoring 4th in Gällivare's 10 km Free. She has been member of two gold Norwegian relays in Gällivare and in La Clusaz. In France she claimed first podium this season taking third behind invincible Bjoergen and runner up Kowalczyk. "It was a great weekend in La Clusaz, I'm very happy and relieved that it went so well!" she wrote on her page.
Kristin Stoermer Steira was lined up for the first highlight of the season - Tour de Ski, which kicks off on December 31 in Oberhof, Germany. "The plan is to travel to Germany on December 29. The competition load in a few days is high. I want to go and take part in the Tour on the other hand I do not want to risk anything in relation to World Champs," she said.
