Vibeke Skofterud and Anssi Pentsinen win sprint qualification in Kuusamo

Vibeke Skofterud and Anssi Pentsinen win classical sprint qualification in Kuusamo.

Vibeke Skofterud won the 1.2 km long qualificiation in 2:47.75 and edged out the runner up of Slovenia Katja Visnar by +0.84 sec. Russia's Natalia Matveece finished third with a +1.50 margin. Defending Ruka Triple Marit Bjoergen gets through from 5th place. Justyna Kowalczyk qualified in sixth best time.

On the men's side a surprise from Finland Anssi Pentsinen took the qualification win. Pentsinen won with a huge margin of +4.30 sec over Sweden's Jesper Modin. Another tall sprinter Len Valjas of Canada clinches third place in the qualifying round. Russian Olympic Champion Nikita Kriukov gets further from the third place in the qualification.
