World's best Cross-Country skiers to meet for the last competition of the season
On Saturday April 26th, the 41st edition of Skarverennet is going to take place. The race belongs to biggest and most popular long distance competitions.
The main competition is 37 km long and goes fromFinse to Ustaoset. A shorter distance is 24 km runs from Haugastøl to Ustaoset. Because of safety reasons the maximum number of participants is limited to 12.200.
“Skarverennet has become a big season finale for both elite and fitness skiers. Skarverennet takes late, but in a good time in April this year. With superb snow conditions in the mountains everything should be in place to celebrate the conclusion of the Cross-Country season,” communication manager of Skarverennet John Ragnar Aarset said.
In the ladies’ category is Therese Johaug and Marit Bjoergen are the biggest favorites. Last year Marit Bjoergen managed to break the winning streak of Therese Johaug, who had won six consecutive years. Furthermore,Heidi Weng, Maiken Caspersen Falla, Astrid Uhrenholdt Jacobsen, Ingvild Flugstad Oestberg, Celine Brun-Lie will be on the start.
Men’s start list is also packed with Cross-Country Skiing stars. Martin Johnsrud Sundby will be wearing bib number one and will be challenged by other Norwegian national team members such as Sjur Roethe, Chris Andre Jespersen, Finn Hagen Krogh, Petter Northug. Also a five-member Swiss contingent is set to compete led by Dario Cologna.
